5K trail run
  • Details from event's Active.com listing:

The Andrew Nettlebeck Memorial Run is an annual 5K trail run/hike through Maple Hill Trails’ School Loop meant to honor our beloved cross country coach, Andrew Nettlebeck, who passed away from brain cancer at age 31. We are heartbroken but committed to honoring him by doing what he loved best: running.

All money raised from run registrations will be donated to the Andrew Nettlebeck Cross Country Scholarship fund.

The Maple Hill Trail system is a scenic, wooded dirt trail system in Big Bear City, California at approximately 6,700 feet elevation.

    Event details and schedule

When is it: The run will start promptly at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 1. Due to the fact that the trail is single-track in most locations, we will start a competitive wave before "fun run" participants begin.

Bib pick up: Early pick up is Friday, May 31, from 5 - 8 p.m. at 649 Irving Way. Or, pick up the morning of the event starting at 7 a.m. We highly encourage picking up Friday night!

What do we get with race registration? All participants who register by May 15 will receive a commemorative race tshirt. You must register by May 15 to ensure that a shirt can be printed for you!

How hard is the course? The School Loop trail has some consistent rolling hills and may be considered a challenge for some. Hiking is always a great option! Those hiking should plan to spend about an hour on the course.

Will the event be professionally timed? This is primarily a fun-run event. Those looking for a more competitive experience can join our Strava Group at Los Angeles, California Club | Run for Andrew on Strava and then sign up for our Strava Event (2nd Annual Andrew Nettlebeck Memorial Run | Strava Club Event), where you can view an official leaderboard!

Where should we park? Park at Big Bear High School (student parking side). We will start the run near the yellow Trailhead closest to the high school in the image below.

Can I make an additional donation to the scholarship fund? Yes! When you check out, you will be given an opportunity to “add on” a donation to your order. You can also make an additional donation the morning of the event.

Will there be prizes for winners? We are grateful to our local business Mountain Trophy for providing trophies for our top three male and female finishers, and also to Ciele Athletics for providing a running hat to the top three male and female winners, and Cotopaxi for providing DO GOOD tshirts for our top three male and female winners! Top 3 runners overall will receive gift certificates to Running Center Redlands.

When will the awards ceremony be held? To ensure that the winning runners are still present during the ceremony, we will hold the ceremony prompty at 9 a.m.

Are dogs allowed? Yes! Dogs are allowed on Maple Hill Trail System, and you can even register your dog to receive a run bandana!

Can I sign up on-site the morning of the event? No. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate same-day registrations, but donations onsite will be welcome. LAST DAY TO REGISTER IS May 31 at 8 p.m.!

WE WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SPECIAL THANKS TO THE GENEROUS SPONSORS WHO PROVIDED NUTRITION AND GIVEAWAYS FOR THIS YEAR'S EVENT:

Tailwind Nutrition, LMNT, Cotopaxi, rabbit, Running Center Redlands, Old Spaghetti Factory, Mountain Trophy, and Kodiak Cakes!

    Thank you!

Committee Members Samantha Swanson (Lead), Kerri Jex, Tina Newkirk, Carrie Horner, Jess Madison.

For the love of all that is good and moisture wicking...
