Heat # 5 – The Mile is the culmination of the Kids Running Program and entry is included by participation in the program as well as open to the community of walkers and runners. The Mile is one of our most family friendly events. The heats are scheduled to enable parents to return to the start to accompany young children and cheer on the older ones. Kona Ice will be on site post-race to help families celebrate their awesome accomplishments and help you stay cool! They will arrive around 9 a.m. and be located just south of the finish line near the football stadium. Prices range from $4 – $7.

Awards will be given; including overall awards, age group awards, and walker awards. Awards are based on 5-year age groups. The number of awards per age group will be determined based on the pre-registered numbers in each age group. Awards range from 1 to 3 per age group. There are also walker awards that are not age based or gender based. The number of walker awards will be based on the number of pre-registered walkers and will be awarded based on the first walker across the finish line and so on. IF YOU ARE SIGNED UP AS A WALKER, PLEASE DO NOT RUN! We have competitive walkers who work hard to win the race and it wouldn’t be fair for a someone to run part of the race and beat out a competitive walker who walked the complete event. In addition to the age group awards, one additional award will also be up for grabs. Prior to the trophy presentation, the child dressed the most patriotically, will be recognized and given a small prize.

For the love of all that is good and moisture wicking...
